If you create a route with the "Follow Roads (auto-route)" check box selected when you proceed to ride description page (step 3 of a ride submission), the Ride Directions field on the auto-populates with Google directions. This is a  handy feature that works well most of the time. Remember the "Follow Roads (auto-route)" check box must be selected before you start placing points and must be on for the entire route creation process.

Occasionally the directions won't appear due to one of several reasons:

1) If you use the "Out and Back" feature directions will not be generated. We are working to fix this problem, until then try this work-around: Map out to the turn around point, Save it. Copy the direction and edit the ride and click the Out and Back check box and paste in the directions that Google generated. Thanks to member weiland
for identifying this bug and suggesting a work-around.

2) Google Maps
sometimes is unable to determine the directions for the route, presumably because its doesn't have the information in its database. If any part of a ride is unknown to Google directions RoadBikeRides will not display the directions. This happens occasionally in North America and more often in other continents that Google is still adding to its data bases.
