Ride Description

The ride starts off flat so that you can get a good warm up before you get to Calaveras Rd.  Calaveras Rd. from this side of the hill is known as the "Wall" because of how the climb gets steeper as you reach the top.  This is the hardest part of the ride though and the scenery with rolling hills on the other side the effort.  There is a long descent down past Sunol Regional Wilderness where you can find good speed because there are few cars.  Continuing through Niles Canyon can be a bit nervous because of the small shoulders or lack of shoulders on the road.  There are two narrow bridges in the Canyon as well that need to be ridden cautiously.  Mission Blvd is a long ride that is relatively flat with plenty of room to ride on the shoulder.  Paseo Padre Pkwy. starts off flat then progresses to rolling hills until you reach Durham Rd.  Be careful of traffic on Auto Mall Pkwy getting back to the REI parking lot because it can be heavy at times.
