Ride Description

This is a 28 mile out and back that travels the gorgeous Red Canyon north of Canon City, CO.  The route is rural and offers outstanding scenery, a mix of old and new pavement with little shoulder, and light traffic.  This route is the same used by the Canon City Crank Pedalers Group Ride that is popular with the regions young and old during the warmer months of the year.

The ride offers rolling terrain with a couple of short but steep climbs.

 

Start Location and Parking

The ride starts at the corner of 12th Street and Greenwood in Canon City, CO.  Roadside parking is plentiful.

Ride Directions

Travel north on 12th for 3 blocks and turn right onto College Ave.  Travel 2 blocks on College and yield left (north) onto Yale.  Follow Yale to the T intersection with Harding Ave and turn  right (east).  Follow Harding for less than a mile and turn left (north) onto 15th.  Following 15th and take your first right onto South St. followed by a quick left (north) onto Red Canyon Rd.  Follow Red Canyon Rd for less than a mile till a T intersection with High St.  Turn right onto High St and take an immediate left (north) onto Fremont County Road 9.  Follow CR 9 through the canyon till the pavement ends and retrace your route.  On the return back to town at 23.5 miles yield to the left onto Field Ave and travel for less than 2 miles where at the bottom of a hill you will turn right back onto High St retracing the route back to the start/finish.

Canon City has a plethora of choices for food and beverage.  A favorite and typical post ride meet up spot is at Pizza Madness on Main Street just a mile southwest of the start/finish.
