This route hits 2 of the 4 Spanish frontier missions that were part of the colonization system stretching across the Spanish Southwest of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. I was in San Antonio for business and brought my bike down. I was only able to get out 1 evening for a ride, this is the route I explored. You can start at the Alamo and pick up the Mission Trail from there (St. Mary's St.) and keep going to the other missions that I missed.
My start location was the Radisson Hotel, I suggest starting at the Alamo and picking up St. Mary's Street from there.
I came up Durango to St. Mary's and turned RIGHT. TURN RIGHT on Mission, there will be signs to follow to each Mission. The first mission you will come to is Mission Concepcion. When you are done exploring the mission get back on Mission Road and continue on to Roosevelt. You can turn on Mission Parkway. From my route you will see I did go down it, it follows the river and is pretty neat. I didn't continue on it all the way back to Mission San Jose, but it does get back to it. From Roosevelt you'll see Mission San Jose. Continue down Roosevelt to the other 2 missions. I had to get back before it got dark so headed back to my hotel.
Downtown San Antonio has many great places. For seafood Landry's was really good. I also had a good lunch at the mexican restaurant Pico de Gaio.
Each of the missions had a visitor center that is open from 9am to 5pm.
I'm not familiar with any.
