Maybe I had a bad day or something but I found this route to be much harder than the nearby higher ranked Onion Valley ride. The first half of the climb is spent in a featureless drainage on good pavement. The upper section is more interesting & has a few small descents on the way up to keep things interesting. Bring plenty of water. I don't recall seeing anywhere to grab some enroute

Depending on the day the White Mountain climb is harder than Onion Valley. I have always climbed Onion Valley first before doing other climbs. But it seems I always climb White Mountain as a second or third climb of the day. That makes it much tougher right there. But the climb has steep ramps at the bottom and then the last 3 miles averages 10% so it's not an easy climb no matter how you look at it.
You can visit my blog for more info on White Mountain or Ancient Bristlecone as it is also known.
