Old La Honda Rd. is a local hill climb considered by many to be a benchmark. Most would say a respectable time is anything under 25min. There is a rumor that Lance did it in under 20min. while talking on a cell phone the whole time. The pro-tour riders for the Tour of California were able to climb up in about 15min.
Difficulty: Advanced
The entire route is shaded with a nice and mostly consistent tree canopy. GPS will still track. The climb up Old La Honda is short but has some steep hairpin turns.
Start in the Town of Woodside. Parking is easy to find a weekends and well as weekdays. Some people prefer to park down Canada Rd. @ Edgewood and ride in as a warm-up.
Clockwise.
The descent down Kings Mountain Rd. is fast but technical at times. If you choose to do this route in reverse and climb Kings Mountain Rd. make your descent back into town on Woodside Rd. (CA-84). Old La Honda Rd. is not surface well to support a safe descent given its grade.
Alice's Restaurant is at the junction of Woodside Rd. and Skyline Blvd. On weekends it looks like a motorcycle rally.
Roberts Market is at the start and end of this ride. If you choose to do a couple of laps on this circuit Roberts is a good place to use the bathroom and refill waters and sugars if you need too.
None in the area. The closest bike shops you'll find are in Los Altos and Palo Alto.
